Mod Podge Matte

Mod Podge Matte

Read all about Mod Podge Matte on this page. Mod Podge is the go-to all-in-one glue, sealer and finish for decoupage and everyday crafts. Decoupage is the fine art of cutting and pasting pieces of paper or fabric to decorate almost any surface. There are various Mod Podge formulas, and each kind has unique characteristics. Mod Podge Matte is one of the formulas. But what is it exactly, what do you use it for and how does it differ from Mod Podge Gloss? Scroll down to read all about Mod Podge Matte!

What is Mod Podge Matte?

Mod Podge Matte is like all other Mod Podge formulas: an all-in-one glue, sealer and finish. The difference lies in the finish. Mod Podge Matte dries matt, while the other classic, Mod Podge Gloss, has a glossy finish and Mod Podge Satin is in between matt and glossy.

Mod Podge Matte vs Gloss

Other than the finish, there are no differences between these two classic Mod Podge formulas. So choosing which one to work with is purely a matter of taste. Do you prefer a matte finish for your decoupage project or do you prefer a bit more shine?

What do you use Mod Podge Matte for?

You can use Mod Podge Matte for all your decoupage projects. Give your furniture or home decor a new look, decorate glass vases or jars, glue paper to wood, transfer images to other surfaces such as wood, canvas or fabrics. Do you want to use Mod Podge Matte as a sealer? Then apply several thin layers and wait an hour before applying the next layer.

Tip: For an ultra-smooth result carefully sand away any unevenness with very fine sandpaper after each coat has dried.

For which surfaces is Mod Podge Matte suitable?

Mod Podge Matte can be used on almost every surface such as wood, glass, paper, paper mache, foam sheets, (some) plastics, fabrics, canvas, ceramics, metal and much more. When in doubt, we recommend always doing a test first by applying some Mod Podge to a small area. Give it enough time to dry to determine if the material is suitable for your decoupage project.

Mod Podge Matte can be used on all surfaces but certain projects might require specific characteristics so Mod Podge has a wide range of formulas. For example, you can use Mod Podge Matte with fabrics, but when fabrics are the base, it's better to use Mod Podge Fabric. This is because this formula makes your project washable. And if you're working on an outdoor project, choose Mod Podge Outdoor

Is Mod Podge Matte waterproof?

No, Mod Podge Matte is not waterproof. Although the Mod Podge formulas are water-resistant, your decoupage projects will not remain beautiful after long periods of contact with water. You can clean Mod Podge projects with some water or a damp cloth. For example, if some fluids are spilt on Mod Podge coasters, you can wipe them clean with a cloth without any problem. But you can't leave the coasters in a bucket of water or outside in the rain for a long time. The same goes for Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe. This formula is often used for decorating mugs and placemats. Even though they can go into the dishwasher (on the top rack), they are still not 100% waterproof. For decoupage projects that need to withstand a little water, Mod Podge Matte is perfect!

Does Mod Podge Matte dry clear?

Yes, Mod Podge Matte dries completely clear, no matter what material you use it on. When you apply Mod Podge, it looks milky. But don't worry, it will be fully transparent once it's completely dry. Sometimes Mod Podge doesn't dry clear. This can happen after too much Mod Podge was applied, if it was applied too thick if you applied layers on top of each other without properly drying in between or if you're drying projects in humid or freezing climates. For best results, apply several thin layers.

What types of Mod Podge Matte are there?

In addition to the classic Mod Podge Matte in various sizes, it's also available as an Ultra Matte Spray. Also available are Antique Matte (which gives your projects a vintage look) and Paper Matte (especially for projects with photos and paper).
