Macramé Christmas Tree Ornaments

Macramé Christmas Tree Ornaments

Knot a beautiful macramé Christmas tree for a unique, handmade Christmas decoration. Hang it in the tree, on a branch by the window, or place it as a festive table decoration. For an extra festive touch, you can place a macramé Christmas tree on each plate. Add some punched-out stars, and you'll have a beautifully decorated table.

1
Cut a piece of macramé cord about 10 inches (25 cm) long, make a loop at the end and thread one bead onto the cord. We call this base the tree trunk of the Christmas tree.
2
Cut two pieces of cord, each about 6.5 ft (2 metres) long. Divide the length into ¼ on one side and ¾ on the other.
3
Then tie these to the trunk.
4
Lay the trunk cord backwards and the two shorter cords (the filler cords) forward. Split the two longest cords to the left and right. From now on, these will be called the working cords.
5
Place the left working cord over the filler cords.
6
Then, place the right working cord over the left cord and pull it under the filler cords. Pull the cord through the loop of the left working cord.
7
Now pull the knot tight.
8
Start with the right working cord and place it over the filler cords.
9
Take the left working cord, place it over the right cord, and pull the working cord under the filler cords.
10
Pull the cord through the loop of the right cord and tighten the knot.
11
Repeat steps 5, 6, 7 and 8, 9, 10 a few times, and finish with step 10, but don’t tighten the knot yet. Then, thread a bead onto the trunk and pass it through the filler cords before tightening the knot.
12
Once the knot is tightened, the cord will wrap around the bead.
13
Repeat steps 5, 6, 7 and 8, 9, 10 several more times, occasionally adding steps 11 and 12 to create a zigzag effect.
14
Gradually, a Christmas tree shape will form. Finish with step 12 when the cords are nearly finished, and tie a knot under the tree to form a tassel.
15
Trim the end straight. Finally, comb out the tassel’s threads, and your Christmas tree is complete!
