Now that you know the basics, here's a simple macramé project to make! We're going to make a simple plant hanger, and you'll only need the lark's head knot and square knot for this easy project.
Materials:
Step 1 Preparation:
Measure and cut the four strands of yarn to the desired length. A good guideline is about 3-4 times the length of your final plant hanger. Make sure all strands are cut evenly.
Step 2 Attaching to the hanging ring:
Fold each of the four strands of yarn in half, one by one, and place the folded loop over the hanging ring or rod. Pull the ends of the strands through the loop and tighten to secure the knot. You have now made four lark's head knots, giving you eight strands to work with.
Step 3 First row of knots:
Start by making the first row of knots. Take two strands that are adjacent to each other and tie them together in a square knot about 10-15 centimetres below the hanging ring. Repeat this with the remaining strands so you have four pairs of strands tied.
Step 4 Continuing the knots:
Continue making rows of knots by taking two strands from adjacent pairs and tying them together about 5-7 centimetres below the previous row of knots. Alternate which strands you use for a nice effect. For this, take the right strand of the first tied pair and the left strand of the second pair and tie these two together so the following knots come in the middle of the first row of knots. Repeat this process until you reach the desired length of the plant hanger.
Step 5 Finishing:
Once you've reached the desired length, tie all the strands together at the bottom of the plant hanger to create a sturdy base. Trim any excess yarn and leave a small fringe.
Step 6 Hang and enjoy:
Place the plant pot in the middle of the hanger and hang the plant hanger in a suitable place in your home. Admire your work and enjoy the beautiful addition to your decor!
