Crafting a festive paper boat

Crafting a festive paper boat

Sinterklaas is a traditional Dutch holiday celebrated on 5 December, where Saint Nicholas,
known as Sinterklaas, brings gifts to children. He arrives in a festive boat
brimming with presents. In this DIY, we show you how to make a festive boat out
of paper.

1
Start with an A4 sheet of paper and fold it lengthwise (top to bottom).
2
Fold the paper again, this time across its width (side to side), then unfold to reveal a central crease.
3
With the folded edge at the top, fold the top left and right corners down so they meet the centre crease, forming a pointed triangle at the top.
4
Fold the bottom flap of the triangle up (the bottom edge to the base of the triangle). Turn the paper over and fold the other flap up as well.
5
Tuck the ends of the flaps inside for a neat finish.
6
Open the bottom and pull the corners outward to form a square.
7
Fold the bottom points of the square up so they meet in the middle, creating a triangle again. Turn the paper over and repeat.
8
Open the bottom once more, pulling the points apart to form a square.
9
Pull up the top points of the square to open the paper boat.
10
Cut a skewer in half and glue the two sticks to the inside of the boat.
11
Fold 4 cm strips of cardstock in half and punch small flags through both layers.
12
Attach the flags to hemp cord.
13
Tie the hemp cord to the skewers.
14
Fill the boat with small gift boxes. Download the template from the PDF linked at the top of the page.
